Q: How many members does OQS currently have?
A: Approximately 350. It has grown from an
initial number of 8.
Q: If I joined OQS what are my advantages?
A: You will:
- Receive a newsletter at various intervals
- Be admitted to the Festival at no charge
- Be able to enter one quilt, free, in the Festival
- Be eligible to attend the Ceta Canyon Fall Retreat
- Be eligible to attend the Winter Experience
- Be eligible to attend the Teachers’ Academy
- Be eligible to go on the Road Trip
- Receive a Festival Show Catalog (former “Newspaper”)
- Be eligible to attend the Saturday Sampler at the
Festival
Q: How many activities does OQS sponsor, now?
A: OQS sponsors several! During 2010,
OQS sponsored:
- Ceta Canyon Fall Retreat - September/October (14th
this year, 2010)
- Winter Experience - January/February - (1st
one, 2010)
- Road Bus Trip - 1st one in planning for
summer, 2011
- Teachers’ Academy - May, 3rd one 2010
- Quilt Festival - April, (13th this year,
2010)
Q: How do I become a volunteer for any of
these activities?
A: There are several ways!
- Contact any Board member & inform them of your
interests.
- Watch the Festival Show Catalog & complete the
volunteer form.
- Watch the Newsletters & call listed chairman numbers.
- OQS has functioned and grown with the help of
volunteers!
- If you are interested, let us know.
Q: I would like to learn to
quilt. How would Ogallala help me?
A: Sign up for classes at the Festival.
Classes are available by professional quilt
instructors from our regional area as well as
nationally known quilt experts. The Saturday Sampler
at the Festival is an excellent place to gain skills
from other professionals. Quilters are known for
sharing and helping and you will meet many at the
different events held by OQS. Attending the retreats
will allow you many opportunities to learn and to
meet other quilters.

quilters in 2010 Festival money?
A: Approximately $7,840 was presented to our
quilters.

Q: Where is Dimmitt? Why is
the Festival held there?
A: Dimmitt is the center point of an area
that is surrounded by Lubbock & Amarillo, Texas and
Clovis, New Mexico. It was the original home of
Ogallala and Dimmitt has been a host with wonderful,
rural hospitality for the past 14 years.
Q: How are the Feature
Teachers chosen?
A: Suggestions are received from members and
Elizabeth Gutschke, Teacher Contact Chairman,
contacts those that are recommended for their
availability. We are currently contracting with
Feature Teachers at least two years in the future.
